Titan Quest

Recently I found myself itching for a new Diablo style action RPG. I remembered hearing good things about an upcoming title called Titan Quest. I was skeptical because it is actually set on Earth, in ancient times in Greece and Egypt; I'm not usually a big fan of the historical theme. However, there is a playable demo out so I checked it out. I'm quite impressed, this is a really top notch diablo clone. The graphics are great, far better than any other diablo style game out there. The loot system works much the same with a nearly infinite number of possible items in several different types...mundane..magic..better magic...and epic; epic items can also come in sets. They also have a system similar to the rune words in diablo II, but simpler. However my favorite part of the game is the class system. There are 8 different masteries that you can choose to start with, 4 melee, 4 magic; each mastery features a skill tree ala' diablo II. The problem with that is that even with a "flexible skill tree" there is usually only two practical paths. In Titan Quest, when you reach level 8, you get to pick a second mastery! So now you can mix/match skills from two different classes, Hot. There are of course other features worth mentioning. The story is stronger than most action RPG's, very good voice acting, sweet introduction, and the historical/mythic theme is actually pretty cool. The demo is available from the link below.

Only problem with the demo is that it only lets you get up to level 6, not high enough to start your second class. As you might be able to tell from the screens below, I've since picked up the full version of the game.

  • Looks like a cool game. I'm downloading the demo right now.

Though, I always feel weird playing a Diablo clone that's not diablo. But I have to say that this Greek/Roman style is cool looking!

  • Hmm...I shall have to try this out as well. I'd been eyeing it for a while as I sat waiting for Hellgate: London, but eventually just started up Diablo II again, hehe.

I'm having a tough time telling from the screenshots...is the skill interface more like D2 or WoW? Because the only thing that bothers me these days about D2 is that you can only have two skills available at the same time, thx to the mouse buttons.

  • The interface is more like wow..you can assign two actions to your mouse buttons...and many more to your number keys.
